Dunbar ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Dunbar mobile application.
Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account information: When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo to create your account.
- Friend and relationship data: Names and notes you add about your friends, group names, and hangout details you create within the app.
- Contacts (with permission): If you grant access, we read your device contacts to help you add friends. Contact data is processed locally and not stored on our servers beyond the friend records you choose to create.
- Calendar (with permission): If you grant access, we read your device calendar to help with scheduling hangouts. Calendar data is processed locally and not uploaded to our servers.
- Usage data: Basic analytics about app usage to help us improve the experience (e.g., which features are used, crash reports).
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the Dunbar app and its features
- To personalize your experience (e.g., friend suggestions, scheduling)
- To send you optional notifications about your friendships (you control the frequency)
- To improve the app based on aggregate usage patterns
- To respond to support requests
Data Storage and Processing
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, our cloud database provider. Supabase uses industry-standard encryption and security practices. Your data is stored in cloud infrastructure and protected by row-level security policies that ensure you can only access your own data.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: We use Supabase for data storage and authentication. These providers only access your data as necessary to perform their services.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid legal processes.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregate data may be retained for analytics purposes.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct any inaccurate information
- Delete your account and associated data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent for optional permissions (contacts, calendar) at any time through your device settings
Children's Privacy
Dunbar is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
